Aerating and Overseeding
Luke 8 tells of a parable in which seed is cast upon the ground. Four types of soil are recorded: only one is "good soil". In the good soil, the seeds flourish and grow, producing a bountiful crop, wth perseverance.
I have a friend that recently came to Christ, and I prayed they would have/be good soil. God laid on my heart - what is the process of creating good soil? Is it natural? Does it happen automatically?
No. I have zero green thumb, but I know it requires significant effort to create and maintain good soil.
Tilling, fertilizing, lime, aretingand overseeding - there a element that, in their right season, that must be applied to create and maintain good soil.
So it is with the believer. The seed is God's Word. It must be sown, and the work of the soil is reading the Bible, prayer, worship, community, etc.
It's about discipleship. My friends's new faith has much to do about me. They have work to do, but I am the farmer, and they are the soil. As the farmer, I must engage with them, regularly I can lead them towards what Scripture to read. I can meet with the and ask them questions. I can provide space for them to ask questions.
This verse is about discipleship. It's about Matthew 28.
